Lewis Hamilton claims his ‘heart still with Mercedes’ despite Ferrari 2025 switch
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Lewis Hamilton sealed his shocking move to Ferrari for next year before the beginning of the 2024 season. The 39-year-old will leave the Silver Arrows after being together for almost 12 years. Multiple people speculated Mercedes’ degrading form to be the reason behind the shocking departure. However, the seven-time world champion has provided clarity on the rumors and claimed his love for Mercedes.

Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton‘s struggle due to Mercedes’ degrading form in the ground-effect era continued in 2024 as well. The 39-year-old hasn’t scored a podium finish in any of the main races so far. Regardless, Hamilton claimed that his heart was with Mercedes despite the performance slump. Additionally, the Briton highlighted that his desire this year was to keep delivering better results with the German manufacturer.

Right now my heart's still with Mercedes and I really want to continue to deliver and lift them up, That's not only my job, but my desire this year. Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by racingnews365.com.

Despite the difficulties faced by the team, Hamilton was committed to the team and was proud of the work done so far. The Briton also shared his hopes of improving in performance down the season and hoped for it to get ‘better’. However, the 39-year-old didn’t want to claim that the season could not be any worse than it already was. Hence, time will tell about how the ultimate season at Mercedes ends for Lewis Hamilton.

And as difficult as it's been, we still rally together and I’m really proud of everyone that I'm working with. And I'm really hoping that the year gets better. I don't want to say it can't get worse, but I definitely think we will improve. Lewis Hamilton noted.

Lewis Hamilton reveals he’s not ‘in touch’ with Ferrari

One could expect Lewis Hamilton to be in touch with the Scuderia one year before the move. However, Hamilton revealed that he wasn’t in contact with Ferrari before the switch. The Briton claimed that he only watched the team from afar and still prioritized Mercedes beating them.

I'm not actually in touch with the team [Ferrari], I observe from afar, but the full focus is on how can we [Mercedes] beat them right now. How can we win. So that's where all my energy is going. Lewis Hamilton added.

Apart from this, the seven-time world champion reckoned that he hadn’t faced such a situation before when he was still in a team and would switch in the coming season. Hence, Hamilton revealed that he was excited about working with the Mercedes crew for now, as well as for the future with Ferrari in Formula 1. Additionally, the 39-year-old claimed that his fans responded great to the shocking late-career switch from him.

I've never been in this situation before, so it's a unique scenario, On one side, I'm really excited for turning up and working with my guys, and then I'm excited for the future at the same time. And also, just in terms of how fans have responded, it's been great, because I'm kind of mingling with fans from both teams. Lewis Hamilton concluded.

Lewis Hamilton’s 2024 season hasn’t been going as expected at all. The 39-year-old is constantly losing out on the possibility of competing for the championship. Mercedes will bring major in-season upgrades to get some results from the challenger. As things are, Brackley could even lose out to McLaren in the constructors’ championship if they fail to perform well.
