New Development in Kansas City Chiefs WR Assault Case Could Have Massive Impact
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Just a few weeks after Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Dallas, Texas, Rice was involved in an altercation with a photographer at a Dallas club.

Rice already had an increased amount of attention on himself due to the hit-and-run incident and regardless of the result of the assault case, the magnifying glass will be on him even more.

It was reported that Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice injured a man in a physical altercation

According to the Dallas News, law enforcement officials said that Rice is suspected in an assault that resulted in an injured man.

The incident took place in downtown Dallas and officers were on the scene at around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. The man was taken to the hospital, but the injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges against Rice were filed and the Dallas County Sherriff’s Department claimed there was no record of a recent arrest.

Two witnesses said the altercation involving Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice did not include physical contact

The new development that could have a massive impact on Rice’s future with the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL at large involves two witnesses who were at the same club in which the incident reportedly took place.

In the report from the Dallas News, they mentioned that there were two civilians familiar with the incident who claimed the altercation was verbal and that there was no physical contact.

This part of the report was not often mentioned when the story was relayed by NFL media. Many fans are still unfamiliar with the fact that there are witnesses who claim that Rice was not involved physically.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice took responsibility for his hit-and-run incident

While Rice was often chastised on social media for his involvement in the hit-and-run incident that took place in April, he did own up to what he did and take responsibility.

In an article from CBS Sports, he explained that he met with the Dallas Police Department and fully cooperated with them.

“Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident. I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident.”

Rice’s lawyer Royce West made a statement about Rice’s involvement in the matter.

“He’s a young man that made a mistake,” West said, adding that Rice’s “heart goes out” to those injured. Two drivers were given medical attention for minor injuries at the crash site and two others went to the hospital for minor injuries. A minimum of three of the victims are retaining legal counsel, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“Mr. Rice wants to make it certain that it is understood and appreciated that he is going to do everything in his power to bring that life back to as normal as possible in terms of injuries and in terms of property damage,” West said, via The Dallas Morning News. “He’ll make certain that he is responsible for helping them get through that particular part of this. Don’t get us wrong, we understand no one can ever bring back to a person who has been in an accident … help them get over the memories of being in that accident.”

Rice is now undergoing lawsuits involving the people affected by the crash that are worth millions of dollars when combined. Regardless of the outcome of the potential assault case, his image in the public eye is forever altered.
