Patriots officially name Eliot Wolf the Executive Vice President of Player Personnel
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots opened the search for a permanent front office executive at the beginning of the week. And it finished in the way everyone expected it to end.

Eliot Wolf had been serving as the de facto general manager throughout the 2024 NFL Draft, and now he will stay in that position, but with a different title.

The Patriots officially named Wolf as the Executive Vice President of Player Personnel on Saturday.

With this role, Wolf will be in charge of the overall direction of the personnel department, along with managing the salary cap and the 53-man roster.

The team decided not to name a general manager this season, which isn't super surprising given how often they have done it since Robert Kraft purchased the team.

Since Robert Kraft bought the team in 1994, only three people have held the de facto general manager title - Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, and now Wolf. But no one ever was ever named the official general manager.

Wolf was always the strongest candidate for the position, but New England also brought in former Carolina salary cap expert Samir Suleiman and Philadelphia Eagles executive Brandon Hunt.

Three candidates had also turned down an interview with the Patriots - Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, former Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris, and Buffalo Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray.
