The Jesus Navas saga is over, and it has a happy ending. The 38-year-old is staying on at Sevilla, less than 48 hours that it was announced he would leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Navas stated that he was never offered a new deal, despite previous assurances that he would receive a “contract for life”. Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco picked up that gauntlet and offered it to the veteran right-back, and it has now been immediately accepted, as announced by Los Nervionenses.

Navas, who has signed a playing contract until the end of 2024, after which he will take up a new role at Sevilla, has received a statement of his own, in which he has stated that his wages for the next seven months will be donated to the club’s charity foundation.

“My wish, and this is what I have conveyed to the president, is to continue playing until December in a transition to help the team. It will be on that date when I decide to hang up my boots with the shirt I always dreamed of wearing as a Sevilla player.

“One more thing – these next few months, my last as a professional footballer, I won’t be paid. The salary agreed upon with the president will be donated to a foundation. It’s my decision and I’ve communicated that to the club. I want the fans to know all the details and to be guided by transparency.”

It’s great to see Navas extend at Sevilla, and he is sure to have a big future at the club, both on and off the pitch.
